Storms bring heavy rain, localized flooding to southern Ontario

Heavy rain moved into parts of southern Ontario Thursday night, bringing localized flooding to several communities -- including downtown Toronto.
The TTC was forced to divert routes in both directions due to flooding on Ossington at Dupont.
Trains bypassed Lawrence Station due to flooding, with shuttle bus service en route according to CP24.

"The rain came courtesy of a huge, fast-moving cell that formed due to an upper-level low," explains Weather Network meteorologist Kelly Sonnenburg.
"However, the storms have been localized. Some parts of the GTA saw no rain at all, with others seeing 50-60 mm over the course of an hour."

Low-lying areas are at the greatest risk for localized flooding. Motorists are being warned to avoid driving through pools of water.
Toronto fire officials have received calls about cars stuck in underpasses due to rising water levels.
After hitting the GTA, the storm continued to move eastward along the 401 corridor, weakening as it went.
Environment Canada issued rainfall warnings for Toronto, Vaughn and Pickering.
