See incredible photo astronaut captured over the Bahamas

Sunday, September 27, 2015, 11:04 AM - This is quite the striking photo of tidal channels cutting through a string of cays in the Bahamas. But zoom in, and you will be even more impressed.

An astronaut aboard the International Space Station managed to capture this shot and for most cosmonauts, this is one of the most recognizable areas on Earth, NASA reports.

Thanks to the steady hands of the astronaut and a long lens, if you take a closer look at the photo, you can see a jet and its twin condensation trails.

The image was taken by a member of the Expedition 44 crew in July, but was NASA's image of the day earlier this week. High resolution photos of NASA's New Horizons spacecraft flyby of Pluto was also recently released.

Great Exuma Island captured in the photo is part of 365 cays in the Bahamas and is known for being remote from the bigger islands.

"Small tidal changes on the banks cause great quantities of water to flow daily through the narrow channels between the cays, first in one direction and then the other," the recent report on NASA's Earth Observatory reads. "The darker blue sections are the deepest parts of the channels, where the water flow has cut through the rock ridge that makes the line of cays."

Light blue represents water that is less than 80 feet. In the upper right corner of the photograph, you can see the jet cuts across the largest channel.
