Roads in Niagara region re-open after snow squalls wreak havoc

Wednesday, November 19, 2014, 11:36 AM - The snow which turned Niagara road ways into parking lots Wednesday morning has tapered, and the Ontario Provincial Police announced that all roads have re-opened as of 1 p.m. ET. Earlier in the day local police asked for help from other areas to try and reach stranded drivers.

The police were reporting an accident a minute in the Niagara and Fort Erie area, with whiteouts and dangerous road conditions. The focus for drivers now will turn to the southern Ontario region, where upwards of 8 cm is forecast for the area. South of the Canadian border, the latest tallies from Buffalo, NY indicate that areas affected by the squalls off Lake Erie Tuesday received in the neighbourhood of 65 inches of snow, with downtown Buffalo seeing six inches. The area just south of the Canadian border is bracing for another round of snow Wednesday night.
