In what could be the most Canadian police chase ever, Alberta Mounties had to hitch a ride with a snowmobiler to pursue a stolen tractor through some snowy fields east of Red Deer Wednesday.

Just before 4 p.m. MT, Blackfalds RCMP responded to a call about a break and enter at a rural home on Highway 595. There, they found that firearms and other items were stolen.

About an hour later, police recieved another call that a John Deere tractor had been stolen.

Police gave chase after stopping a passing snowmobiler and being offered a ride, following the getaway tractor through farmers' fences and trees.

RCMP said the driver stalled while trying to climb a hill. When the driver tried to back down, the vehicle rolled and the suspect was arrested. No injuries were sustained in the crash, though the tractor suffered extensive damage.
