Temperatures drop as rain moves into Ontario

Monday, May 12, 2014, 2:40 PM - Southern Ontarians likely spent the Mother's Day weekend enjoying the warm weather with above seasonal temperatures sending residents outside in droves.

The short taste of summer is about to come to an end with below-seasonal temperatures and unsettled conditions expected to remain in place through the week.

"A low pressure system from the U.S. is bringing warm, unstable air to southwestern Ontario," says Weather Network meteorologist Dayna Vettese. "This could spark thunderstorms across the region. There's also a chance for severe, isolated thunderstorms to develop."

Rain began moving in after the lunch hour Monday.

Up to 25 mm of rain is forecast in the hardest hit areas through Tuesday.

For the next few days, temperatures are expected to hover around the 18-degree mark -- a six degree drop from the high of 24°C recorded at Toronto Pearson Sunday.

This trend is expected to persist throughout the week, with the current forecast calling for a daytime high of 11°C at Toronto Pearson on Friday.
