The Quebec government has announced its plans to spend about half a billion dollars on green transportation over the next three years.

The plan includes up to $8,000 in incentives for the purchase of green cars, and up to $1,000 for people who install charging units at home.

The province hopes to add at least 12,500 electric vehicles to its roads by 2017.

Other initiatives include the installation of 5,000 public charging stations, more than 500 electric taxis and 25 electric trolleys in Montreal.
