Twitter fired up Sunday afternoon with numerous reports of a loud boom and shaking felt in an area stretching from Peterborough the lakeshore in Cobourg, Port Hope, Durham Region, Scarborough and east Toronto.

Though yet to be confirmed, most are suspecting the sonic boom was a result of a meteor blasting through the Earth's atmosphere.

People on twitter reported seeing a bright flash in the sky at about 4:20 p.m.. As many as three loud blasts were heard in the Peterborough area, according to The Peterborough Examiner

CFB Trenton has confirmed the situation does not involve an aircraft, Pete Fisher of Northumberland Today reports.

So far, no injuries or damage has been reported, nor any indication that anything had struck the ground.
