Friday, July 18, 2014, 4:35 PM - Ace the pitbull is a local hero after rescuing his best friend from a house fire.

Thirteen year-old Nick Lamb, who is deaf, was napping in his Indiana home Wednesday without his hearing implants.

When the fire started to spread through the home, Ace went into Nick's room and licked his face until he woke up.

Both of them made it out of the home safely.

“We hear of dogs barking to wake someone up during a fire but not licking their face,” Fire Department Captain Rita Reith told Reuters Thursday.

"He's always been good with people that comes over; he's never been really aggressive," Nick's father, James Bernard, says of 2 year-old Ace.

"He's just like one of the family members basically."

Nick told reporters that he loves Ace "a lot."

According to Reuters, the electrical fire started in the garage, causing an estimated $175,000 in damages.
