10 shots of B.C.'s powerful wind storm damage
Digital Reporter
Saturday, August 29, 2015, 7:06 PM - The first of two waves of rain and gusting winds hit Metro Vancouver and parts of southern B.C. Saturday afternoon, causing severe damage and leaving more than 300,000 customers without power.
Environment Canada issued rainfall and wind warnings for the South Coast early Saturday afternoon. Wind gusts peaked at around 1 p.m. PDT, reaching speeds of up to 90 km/h.
Active weather is expected to continue in the Lower Mainland and South Coast through Monday, with the heaviest rainfall amounts forecast for Sunday overnight.
The weekend rain comes after one of B.C.'s hottest, driest summers on record. Rainfall amounts forecast for Monday are expected to surpass the total amount of rainfall for the past four months combined.
Here are 10 shots that show the damage of the first wave from southern B.C.'s powerful windstorm.
