Sunday, July 5, 2015, 7:00 PM - An ongoing heatwave in Pakistan has claimed more than 1,100 lives, marking the country's deadliest heat wave in history.
Morgues were overcrowded as mass funerals were held at the end of June. Temperatures reached up to 44 C, the hottest temperatures since 1981, Reuters reports.
Recent power outages left many without access to fans or water, and the heatwave coincided with the start of Ramadan, a religious observation during which Muslims abstain from food and water, Reuters notes.
