Power restored after parts of Toronto wake up to darkness early Thursday

Thursday, June 5, 2014, 11:17 AM - Thousands of customers in Toronto's east end woke up to no power early Thursday morning.
The outage affected residents in an area bordered by St. Clair Avenue East to Lake Shore Boulevard East and from the DVP to Victoria Park Avenue.

According to Toronto Hydro, at least 16,000 customers were without power by 8 am.

Officials say the blackout was due to a problem with equipment at transformation stations.
Crews were on site since about 7 am, and were able to fully restore power around 10 am.

Despite several downtown schools being impacted by the outage, no school closures were reported.
Police officials were warning drivers to use precaution and treat traffic lights as all-way-stops.
