Thursday, April 2, 2015, 9:45 AM - Zorha Hussain, 51, of Chicago is dead after her husband followed the car's GPS directions and drove off a partially-demolished bridge that has been closed to the public for six years.

Her husband Iftikhar Hussain, 64, survived the crash, which occurred Saturday morning.

The Nissan Sentra fell more than 11 metres and burst into flames.

Police are trying to determine why Iftikhar drove off the bridge. It's suspected the couple was on their way to visit family and were unfamiliar with the area.

“The Cline Avenue bridge is marked with numerous barricades including orange barrels and cones, large wood signs stating ROAD CLOSED with orange striped markings,” Lake County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Patricia Van Til told reporters.

“There are concrete barricades across the road to further indicate that the road is closed.”

A barrier that had blocked the entrance to the bridge had been moved, but authorities aren't sure if that happened before or after the crash.
