ON CAMERA: Croc chases swimmer

Saturday, August 16, 2014, 12:43 PM - The guy in the video above picked the WRONG place to go for a dip.

That does appear to be a large crocodile lazily following the swimmer, identified only as a tourist, as he frantically paddles back to shore in Sian Ka'an, near Tulum on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.

The video was uploaded to the Facebook page of Manuel Carrera, according to Noticaribe, which broke the story on Thursday.

Quick-thinking onlookers bought the swimmer some time by distracting the animal with thrown objects, apparently with some success, as the tourist apparently escaped undevoured.

Carrera said that particular animal was well known in the area, swiping fish from lines cast by fishermen on the bridge where the video was shot.

"Unfortunately, that crocodile already associated us with food, and as the video shows the boy was saved because the crocodile is well fed and chased at a pace that allowed him to reach the shore," Carrera says.

Noticaribe says Carrera hopes posting the video to his Facebook would serve as a warning to locals and tourists of the real dangers that lurk off Sian Ka'an, a popular biosphere reserve.
