Atlantic Canada storm: Track the storm with news, videos and maps

A powerful Nor'easter that's storming through as an Atlantic Canada storm has prompted widespread warnings across the region.

Blizzard, wind and storm surge warnings have been issued and residents are being urged to avoid an unnecessary travel.

WEDNESDAY

9:24 p.m. ADT: METEO MEDIA REPORTER STRANDED
Prior to recording a live TV hit for The Weather Network, MétéoMédia reporter Marco Parent tells the TWN newsroom that he's "stranded" in Shediac, New Brunswick, where he has been on location covering the storm.

"We can't make it back to our hotel," he says, citing the terrible road conditions.

"We plan to sleep in the car."

8:55 p.m. ADT: ROADS CONTINUE TO DETERIORATE 

7:20 p.m. ADT: FIERCE WINDS CONTINUE
Environment Canada reports a wind gust of 186 km/h in Wreckhouse, Newfoundland.

"Wind and blowing snow are expected to remain an issue in Newfoundland until winds start to die down Friday morning," says Weather Network meteorologist Matt Grinter.

5:51 p.m. ADT: WRECKHOUSE SETS NEW WIND RECORD

A gust of 183 km/h recorded in Wreckhouse, NL. That beats the previous record set in 2007.

5:31 p.m. ADT: WE HAVE A WINNER

Gust of 208 km/h recorded at a weather station on Seal Island off the Bay of Fundy (according to meteorologist Doug Gillham)

5:15 p.m. ADT: SNOW TAPERING 

Snow starts to taper in the Maritimes, but strong winds are expected to continue through the evening.
