Autopsies are to be conducted Tuesday as police in northern New Brunswick investigate the apparent strangling of two young boys by a snake.
RCMP say the boys' bodies were discovered Monday in an apartment above an exotic pet store in Campbellton.
Constable Jullie Rogers-Marsh says the boys -- aged five and seven -- were visiting the apartment of a friend above Reptile Ocean. The boys' friend was sleeping in another room and was unharmed.
The snake was later captured and is in the possession of police.
Investigators say they believe the snake escaped from its enclosure in the store during the night and made its way to the upstairs apartment through the ventilation system.
Deputy mayor Ian Comeau says Reptile Ocean was licensed and operating according to city bylaws and provincial guidelines.
Comeau says the deaths are a shock to the community and says some people still can't believe what happened.
