MUST SEE: Stealthy snake snatches fish from young boy

Wednesday, May 20, 2015, 9:15 AM - Hook, line and...slither?

Two brothers out for an afternoon of fishing were caught off guard when their catch of the day was swiped by a sneaky garter snake.

Alex and Ryan Butler were at a local fishing hole in the township of Alexandria, Ontario, on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

Eight-year-old Alex was removing a freshly caught perch from his hook when the snake appeared out of the grass, grabbed it, and quickly took off.

The boy's mother Cindy Kruller quickly grabbed her phone and filmed the thievery in progress.

The hungry garter gets so close to a clean getaway -- but this fish lives to see another day.

The chase comes to an end when the snake drops the live fish in the grass and slithers away, and young Alex quickly returns the perch to its home in the waterway.

They often hear snakes moving through the grassy shores of the water, but have never seen one act so bold, Kruller told the local newspaper.

Kruller posted the video on YouTube at her son's request, where it has received over 500,000 views.
