Morning briefing: A hurricane miss, a potential nor'easter and more, more rain.

Monday, October 20, 2014, 8:52 AM - Wondering what you missed this weekend or what's coming up next? Don't worry we have you covered.

Here's your morning briefing for Monday October 20.

1. Gonzalo moves on

First Gonzalo struck Bermuda, causing quite a bit of damage and leaving nearly 80 per cent of the island without power. Then it moved toward Atlantic Canada narrowly missing a direct hit on Newfoundland. Still Hurricane Gonzalo was strong enough to bring heavy rainfall and gusty winds to the region. St John's easily saw more than 50 millimetres of rainfall while places like Cape Race and Cape Pine saw wind speeds exceeding 100 km/h. Waves of up to 20 metres were reported by the Laurentian Fan buoy. Gonzalo is now crossing the Atlantic and racing toward the U.K.

2. Not in the clear yet

Gonzalo may have moved out in the area but it isn't sunny skies for the area.

"Western Newfoundland will be seeing rain today with Gulf effect showers hitting the region on Tuesday," said Matt Grinter, meteorologist at The Weather Network.

It's also going to be a windy day with gusts picking up in western and northern Newfoundland, parts of the province that had been mostly spared by Gonzalo this weekend. Wind gusts could reach 100 km/h this evening on the North Peninsula.

A coastal system will also bring high rainfall amounts to the Maritimes, as a low pressure lingers from Tuesday night to Friday.

"A disturbance sliding southeast from from southern Ontario is expected to merge with a system undergoing cyclogenesis along the Eastern Seaboard," says Weather Network meteorologist Tyler Hamilton. "The system will bring 40-80 mm of rain to much Nova Scotia and New Brunswick."

Hamilton says this type of setup could create a "classic slow-moving Nor'easter, with heavy rains being the primary threat.

3. Wet start of the week

Monday and Tuesday aren't looking to be particularly sunny. Light rain moved into northern and southern Ontario today. Scattered showers will continue for southern Ontario on Tuesday before that system continues moving east to bring some messy weather to Atlantic Canada.

Temperatures however will remain seasonal throughout the week before warming up on Friday.

4. Another warm one for the Prairies

While people out east were dealing with Gonzalo, the Prairies had a very nice Sunday. The trend will continue for southern Alberta and Saskatchewan today as some places could reach the mid 20s.

Plus, dry conditions will persist throughout the beginning of the week, before the risk of showers moves into central and northern Alberta on Thursday.

5. The Parade continues

It's been a "parade of storms" this last week for British Columbia and that trend will continue.

The southern coast will see rain for most of Monday before easing up overnight. There will be a few hours of dry conditions on Tuesday before another system moves in that will stick around till Thursday.
