Monday, September 29, 2014, 5:58 PM - A two-year-old girl who wandered away from her family near Woodstock, Ont. Sunday evening has been found safe.

“We were just walking along the back cornfield and we’re just calling her name. I called her name, I wasn’t hearing anything," a volunteer named Steve told the CBC.

The girl was found at the edge of a corn field.

“I heard a little girl crying and I followed the noise and it took me right to her ... It was pretty special, I’ve got two kids of my own, so you know, to hear her and all she wanted to do was go to her mommy and daddy, it was pretty special," the volunteer added.

Ontario Provincial Police Const. Larry Plummer told reporters that Brooklyn Hoderich had wandered a "significant distance" from a farm owned by her parents in Norwich county. It is not the family's primary residence.

The toddler was reported missing around 7 p.m. Sunday night, sparking a massive search effort that included a helicopter, canine units, more than two dozen officers and about 60 volunteers.

Brooklyn was found Monday afternoon after spending the night outdoors. She appeared to be in good health but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

“Thank God last night wasn’t as cold as it has been,” Plummer remarked to reporters.
