Minor earthquake reported under Lake Ontario

It may not have been significant enough to feel, but there was some light rumbling under Lake Ontario late Wednesday night.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a magnitude 2.9 earthquake struck 40 km southwest of Cobourg, Ontario just before midnight on Wednesday.

The agency says the epicentre was under the middle of the lake and was about five kilometres deep.
