Not the abominable snow squalls of the weekend, but enough to make the commute harder for the unwary.

Snow makes for messy morning commute ahead for southern Ontario

Monday, January 12, 2015, 6:51 AM - Snow moved into Ontario overnight, and will stick around long enough to affect the morning commute.

"Windsor has already seen 6 cm of snow as of 6 a.m., and could see an additional 2-4 cm," Weather Network meteorologist Brett Soderholm said early Monday morning. "The snow will impact the morning commute in the Greater Toronto Area, so drive carefully."

The snow is forecast to continue throughout the morning, tapering off around mid-day in most parts of Ontario, although in the east, and in southern Quebec, the snow will likely continue into the afternoon..

Additional accumulations should be fewer than 2 cm in the GTA and most of the province, but Windsor and southwest could get as much as 5 cm, as might the Niagara region and eastern Ontario, including Kingston and Ottawa.

Even that small amount of snow could make for dodgier driving if you're unprepared. Budget more time to leave on your commute, and drive to the conditions once you're on the road.

Winds, however, won't be strong, but the province's warmest temperatures will be in the morning, rather than mid-day.

"A wind shift will funnel in colder air from the north and drop those temperatures steadily throughout the evening," Soderholm says.

By Tuesday, Toronto will have a daytime high of -11oC, Ottawa will be at -14oC, but Soderholm says conditions Tuesday and Wednesday will mainly be sunny, with little active weather expected until the end of the week.
