Firefighters are battling a massive fire on the new boardwalk in Seaside Park, New Jersey.

Thick clouds of dark smoke are drifting over the pier as red hot flames burn the recently-rebuilt attraction.

The entire area was mostly destroyed by hurricane Sandy last fall.

The fire apparently started in a custard shop around 2:15 Thursday afternoon.

High winds up to 48 kph helped fan the flames.

Firefighters are still on the scene.
