A strong magnitude 6.4 earthquake shook Puerto Rico early Monday, causing minor damage in some places.

The quake struck just after midnight, about 57 km north of Hatillo.

Puerto Rico's emergency management agency said there was no tsunami warning and that no injuries have been reported.

Several residents say they felt the shake however, and some reported items falling in their homes.

Others say they felt buildings sway in the capital of San Juan, about 100 km from the quake's epicenter.

A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck near Puerto Rico in March 2011, and another of the same magnitude hit on Christmas Eve in 2010.
