Saturday, February 2, 2019, 3:08 PM - While many are welcoming the slowly climbing temperatures in the GTA at the end of this week, the slight warm up comes with an increased risk of falling ice from buildings, which proved to be dangerous in Toronto on Friday.

The Toronto Police reported that around 2:00pm on Friday a large chunk of ice dislodged from the roof of a condo and plummeted 40 stories and damaged two vehicles, including a Canada Post truck, when it landed.

Global News states that they have received reports of sharp frozen ice during early Friday afternoon in the area of Adelaide Street and Widmer Street.

Individuals that witnessed the incident took to social media to share their view of the scene, where the damage to the roof of the Canada Post truck is visible.

The Canada Post driver had luckily stepped out of the truck before the ice fell, and likely avoided serious injury.

Pedestrians walking along buildings are advised to look up and be wary of falling ice, since most ice falls within 1.5 to 3 metres from a building.
