With gas prices topping $1.40 per litre across much of Canada, Canadians are scratching their heads over the jump, and looking ahead.

With gasoline up 20 per cent over last year, and natural gas as much as 30 per cent more expensive, families are facing increased costs of several hundred or even several thousand dollars a year.

We brought in Dan McTeague, of "Tomorrow's Gas Price Today," to tell us exactly how the past winter, brutal as it was, has hit fuel stocks.

He also warns us to be prepared: Higher gas prices carry a knock-on effect for other commodities, like food, and you can expect to see it this summer.
