Wednesday, December 10, 2014, 4:06 PM - A massive system affecting Quebec has caused poor road conditions and several accidents. On Wednesday afternoon, officials were forced to shut down a portion of the Trans Canada highway after heavy snow significantly reduced visibility in some places.

They day started off with snowy, wet conditions across Quebec.

By 9:20 a.m. Hydro Quebec had reported 12,000 power outages, with the majority in the Eastern Townships.

Dangerous road conditions continued through the day with several accidents reported on Quebec roads and a major pileup in the community of Bellchasse.

A section of the TransCanada highway remains closed from Quebec City to Montmagny, with poor visibility stretching all the way to the New Brunswick border.

Winter storm warnings remain in place across southern Quebec. Up to 40 cm of snow is expected to accumulate through Thursday accompanied by wind gusts up to 90 kilometres per hour.
