Heavy rain and lightning pushed into B.C. Tuesday, causing widespread power outages in some places. But Wednesday will bring a whole new set of warnings for the province.

Rainfall warnings were issued for several communities, including Metro Vancouver and East Vancouver Island.

"Gusty winds are expected in the Georgia strait through Tuesday evening as well," adds Weather Network meteorologist Brett Solderholm.

Up to 120 mm is forecast in some areas along with wind gusts between 80-100 km/h near the water. That will diminish the following day.

There have been reports of ponding on roadways. Motorists are being warned to drive according to the conditions and avoid large puddles.

"The region continues to experience a parade of systems, but the system Tuesday night into Wednesday will bring more substantial rains and stronger winds than the previous ones," says Weather Network meteorologist Dr. Doug Gillham.

While the heaviest rain is expected Tuesday evening, additional rounds of showers with scattered thunderstorms will continue through Thursday.

"Rainfall totals for the Lower Mainland will range from 40 mm near the coast to 80 mm closer to the mountains," Dr. Gillham says.

"Further inland and in higher elevations, rainfall amounts will be 100-150+ mm by Friday."
