Monday brings the week's hottest temps to ON, feels like 40

Monday, September 7, 2015, 5:30 PM - People in Ontario are in for their hottest day this week, as ongoing high temperatures peak at last.

Parts of Ontario will cross the 30oC mark, with the lingering humidity making it feel like 40 or above -- dangerously hot conditions that could cause serious harm to people who don't take measures to protect themselves.

Toronto Pearson International Airport reported its hottest temperatures of 2015, with a high of 33.5C Monday afternoon. The city of Hamilton was Canada's hot spot of the day, reaching a sweltering high of 33.7C.

It'll be a bit cooler near the Great Lakes, but by Tuesday, temperatures slowly begin to drop off to the mid 20s by late week, although the humidity will still make it feel like 30 or above on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Heat warnings are still in effect for southwestern Ontario and the Greater Toronto Area, along with the National Capital Region and environs.

As ever, extreme heat and humidity are prime ingredients for thunderstorms, with the possible trigger being a cold front advancing from the north that will attempt to track further southeast.

Storms that do spark up are mostly expected to be non-severe, but some in the Nickel Belt may reach severe status. Keep an eye on Environment Canada alerts for severe thunderstorm watches and warnings that may be issued.

"Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue for southern Ontario for the first day of school, with plenty of humidity sticking around until Thursday," Weather Network meteorologist Erin Wenckstern says.
