Gorilla charges, cracks glass at Nebraska zoo

Sunday, April 19, 2015, 1:56 PM - The gorilla in the video above may not be strong enough to actually break the glass of his enclosure, but it's impressive he managed to even crack it at all.

The animal, Kijito, charged the glass at the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium in Omaha, Nebraska, last week -- right as a family, including a little girl, were standing right behind it.

Kevin Cave caught the charge on video and uploaded it to YouTube:

It's not clear what set the giant ape off, although Cave told CNN zoo staff told him some of the male gorillas had been fighting, and one of them had a cut beneath its eye when Cave arrived at the exhibit.

The zoo's general curator, Dan Cassidy, said the gorillas often try get a reaction out of the viewing public, but in this case, Kijito's stunt may have been posturing directed at one of the other gorillas.

"It is common for male gorillas to display to each other and occasionally they use the glass because of the noise it makes on their side," Cassidy said in a release on the zoo's website.

The zoo says the bystanders were never in any danger: One layer of the glass was cracked, but the other two remained intact.\
