Environment Canada is warning of the potential for funnel clouds across parts of Ontario Wednesday afternoon into the early evening.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are in place as well, with up to 75 mm of rain already reported in some communities.

"As a result of a large upper level low, low-top supercells have been able to produce numerous funnel clouds across southern Ontario," says Weather Network meteorologist Monica Vaswani.

"These funnel clouds can sometimes touch down and produce weak tornadoes."

There have been no reports of tornadoes touching down in southern Ontario Wednesday and no tornado watches or warnings are currently in place.

While the storm threat has largely moved out of the GTA, funnel cloud potential could remain in eastern Ontario into the late afternoon.

An omega blocking pattern is holding Canada's weather mostly in place this week, which has been giving way to below-seasonal temperatures.

Additional showers are forecast throughout the remainder of the week.
