Here's your weather briefing for Wednesday, October 1.

    1. Seasonal temps remain as rain showers affect parts of the Maritimes

Much of Atlantic Canada can expect clearing skies as high pressure from the north moves in on Wednesday with northeast breezes making temperatures near seasonal.

"A stalled out low pressure system off Sable Island will drift westward and affect Nova Scotia and extreme southern parts of New Brunswick on Thursday," says Weather Network meteorologist Brian Dillon. "Light to moderate rain showers and increasing gusty winds are expected along the shorelines into Friday."

    2. Mild start to October in southern Ontario, temperatures to dip later this week

Early morning fog across parts of southern Ontario will give way to sunshine and warming temperatures Wednesday.

"Temperatures will climb even further on Thursday with increasing wind gusts through the evening hours," says Dillon.

A developing low stateside will start to slide north on Thursday, crossing Lake Michigan early Friday and into the Nickel Belt region by Friday afternoon.

"With the deepening of the low, the wind-field around the Great Lakes will cause gusts throughout southern Ontario between 50 km/h in the GTA to near 80 km/h along Lake Huron shorelines, with higher gusts possible," Dillon says. "Thunderstorms are also possible on Friday afternoon ahead of the cold front as it quickly moves across the area."

Cooler air will rush in behind the front allowing northwest winds to develop over southern Ontario on Saturday. Temperatures of 10-13°C  are expected and lake-effect rain showers are likely.

    3. Rain/snow mix and wind chills for parts of the Prairies

"An eastern Prairie low will drift into northern Manitoba today with 15-25 mm of rain possible through Saskatchewan and Manitoba," Dillon says. "A quick-moving low out of northern Alberta will also bring a rain/snow mix throughout Alberta later today as the system slides through Alberta by this evening."

Less than two centimetres of snow is expected, but chilly temperatures will make things feel a lot more wintry.

"Day-time temperatures in Alberta will be near 14-16°C today however, wind chills will feel like -5 to -10 Thursday morning," Dillon adds.

    4. Heavy rain to blast the north and central coast of B.C.

"Next system arrives for the north and central coast with gusty winds and rainfall amounts over 50 mm possible near coastal areas from Bella Bella northwards towards Prince Rupert," says Dillon. "Dry conditions will remain in place for extreme south coast until Friday where light showers arrive from the Pacific Low."
