Fire destroys chicken barn in Avonport, Nova Scotia

A massive fire at a chicken farm Saturday morning gripped the community of Avonport, Nova Scotia.
Large plumes of thick black smoke billowed over the Annapolis Valley as the inferno raged at this Avonport chicken farm.
The 350 foot long structure housed up to 40,000 chickens, but luckily, none were in the building when the blaze ignited.
About 50 firefighters were called to the scene to try and put out the fire at approximately 10 a.m. Saturday.

The fire did not pose a threat to nearby residents, but smoke from the blaze was visible from Highway 101 several kilometres away.
Damage from the fire is estimated at $100,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
