Environment Canada issues special weather statement ahead of strong storm approaching Atlantic Canada

Saturday, September 20, 2014, 8:33 PM - All eyes are on an approaching low that is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to Atlantic Canada Sunday and Monday.
"Environment Canada meteorologists are monitoring an area of low pressure currently developing near Florida," said Environment Canada (EC) in a special weather statement Saturday. "Forecast guidance indicates this system may have significant influence on weather conditions over Newfoundland as it tracks west of the island on Monday."
But before the system hits Newfoundland, it will impact parts of the Maritimes Sunday evening into Monday -- with showers lingering through the afternoon.

"Rainfall amounts could possibly exceed 40 mm over parts of mainland Nova Scotia by Monday morning," says EC.
"A slight variation in the system's track or intensity could result in higher rainfall amounts which may require warnings to be issued."
EC says it is still to soon to determine the exact impacts from this low on Newfoundland, but "the potential for significant rainfall and strong winds exists throughout the island."
"Forecasters will continue to assess this system as it develops and provide more detailed information as it becomes available," adds EC.
