Patchy fog developed over parts of southern Ontario early Tuesday, prompting Environment Canada to issue a special weather statement for the area.

"Some webcams across Southern Ontario, particularly in the Barrie, Kitchener, Brantford and London areas, combined with observations at weather stations and even an off duty meteorologist have indicated visibilities of 200 metres or less," Environment Canada said in a statement released earlier today.

The poor conditions prompted several school bus delays across the region, with cancellations reported in places like Lambton.

Officials say the conditions contributed to a fatal two-vehicle crash west of London.

One of the drivers, a female, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle, a male, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The identity of the deceased has not been released.
