Thursday, January 29, 2015, 7:32 AM - Cold conditions and snow are headed into Canada later this week. Here's what you need to know for Thursday.
ATLANTIC CANADA
- Maritimes: The Nor'easter impacting the Maritimes should be gone by Thursday, just in time for a fair day throughout Atlantic Canada. The next storm to hit the region should move in Friday night and into Saturday.
- Newfoundland: A special weather statement is in effect for parts of Newfoundland with a low pressure system expected to develop south of the province on Thursday. "This low will track slowly northward, tracking east of the Avalon Peninsula Friday afternoon," Environment Canada says in a statement. "Snow is expected to begin over eastern Newfoundland Friday morning and persist into Friday night."
ONTARIO AND QUEBEC
- Quebec: A clipper will move into the province in Thursday morning, bringing the heaviest snow amounts in the later part of the day. On Friday some lingering flurries could have an impact on the morning commute.
- Ontario: The next system will hit the area Thursday morning, but will have a larger impact on the afternoon/evening commute. Some communities could see up to 10 cm of snow. Lingering flurries could persist into Friday, creating the potential for a messy morning commute in the Ottawa area.
WESTERN CANADA
- Prairies: "There's a big cool down in store Thursday for eastern Prairies, with western portions following suite this weekend," says Weather Network meteorologist Erin Wenckstern.
- British Columbia: High pressure will dominate for the next couple of days. Cloudy conditions are expected in the Vancouver area, with snow and rain expected on the north coast later this week.
