Tuesday, March 24, 2015, 6:30 AM - Calm conditions will prevail across Canada, with the exception of Ontario, which is expecting freezing rain and BC, which could see additional rainfall. Here's your Wednesday weather brief.

Atlantic Canada

  • Maritimes: Sunny but cool conditions across Atlantic Canada on Wednesday. It will be relatively calm until another system moves in Thursday, marked by light mixed precipitation and more seasonal temperatures through the morning hours.
  • Newfoundland: Generally clear conditions are expected along with some cloud cover. By Thursday, the system moving through the Maritimes will bring some mixing to Newfoundland though the afternoon.

Ontario and Quebec

  • Quebec: There's a chance of wet-flurries or rain showers in the afternoon for parts of Montreal, although generally a light rain story, then mixing into Thursday/Friday. Flurries linger into Friday.
  • Ontario: A warm front pushes in pre-dawn Wednesday, bringing a risk of freezing rain after 5 a.m. for parts of southern Ontario, including the GTA, with some spots lingering into the late morning. Generally 10-12 mm of rain for the GTA, locally 20 mm near Lake Erie. A special weather statement is in effect ahead of the system. The freezing rain "will likely persist for a few hours in some areas and may pose hazardous driving conditions Wednesday morning given the cold overnight temperatures just prior to the precipitation," Environment Canada says in a statement. Snow moves into northwestern Ontario and continues into Thursday, when the next system will bring a chance of more rain and mixing to parts of southern Ontario.

Western Canada

  • Prairies: Flurries linger in southern Manitoba until the late afternoon, coupled with wind gusts up to 70 kilometres per hour. In Alberta, a risk of flurries and ice pellets arrives in  Edmonton in the early morning hours on Thursday. Temperatures vary from east to west for the remainder of the week. Western Prairies will enjoy seasonal conditions while the east sees temperatures below the seasonal mark.
  • British Columbia: Between 10 and 20 mm of rain is coming to parts of the south coast on Wednesday, combined with breezy conditions. Lingering showers will persist on Thursday, with the warmest day of the week being Friday.
