Wednesday, February 25, 2015, 8:33 AM - The active weather pattern continues for the eastern half of Canada. Meanwhile, western Canada can expect cooling temperatures and fog along the coast. Here's your Wednesday weather brief.

Atlantic Canada

  • Maritimes: A system developing off the Carolinas will track up the coast, passing through the region Wednesday. Snow will pick up through the day in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI. "With a bit of milder air, Nova Scotia will likely transition over to a mixing Wednesday afternoon," says Weather Network meteorologist Kelly Sonnenburg. Up to 20 cm of snow is expected for the Halifax area.
  • Newfoundland: The system impacting the Maritimes will hit Newfoundland Wednesday afternoon, bringing snow to the region. Strong winds are expected through the day, with gusts up to 100 km/h forecast for the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

Ontario and Quebec

  • Ontario: Snow won't be an issue Wednesday morning, but wind gusts up to 60 km/h will cause temperatures to plunge.
  • Quebec: Light snow will make its way into southern Quebec, persisting through the morning. "Blowing snow could be a concern Wednesday afternoon," Sonnenburg says.
  • Montreal will see some flurries durnig the evening hours. Blowing snow is expected to be an issue on Wednesday morning.

Western Canada

  • Prairies: The cool down continues with colder temperatures moving into Alberta during the evening, causing rain to transition to a rain/snow mix in Edmonton and Calgary. Regina also reported freezing precipitation.
  • The area was forecast to warm up a little bit in the next couple of days but remain still below seasonal.
  • B.C.: A warm front moves in Wednesday for the South Coast, bringing the potential for light showers to Vancouver during the afternoon. Fog may be an issue on the south and north coasts during the morning hours.
