Sunday, March 1, 2015, 8:48 PM - Snow is either moving in, or just over the horizon, for much of Canada for the start of the work week.
Here's your coast-to-coast roundup for Monday, March 2.
Atlantic Canada
Monday will be messy across this region, thanks to the latest storm.
- Maritimes: A low pressure system tracked into Maritimes overnight, set to bring 5-10 cm of snow. Snow tapers off to flurries Monday evening, but blowing snow still a concern through the overnight into Tuesday morning. Winds pick up Monday evening. Coastal areas of the Maritimes will see gusts between 60-80 km/h. Cape Breton reaches 100 km/h peaks along the northern edge through pre-dawn Tuesday. Second round of snow to come mid-week.
- Newfoundland: Snow rates increase through the day Monday, with peak snowfall Monday evening. 15-25+ cm for central and western Newfoundland, 5-10 cm for the Avalon, before transitioning to rain/wet snow in the evening in that area. Tapers off Tuesday morning, though sea effect snow will likely continue.
Ontario and Quebec
Temperatures are still an improvement in contrast to last month, but winter woes are far from over.
- Ontario: Snow tracking east, leaving scattered flurries through south, central and eastern Ontario. New system to bring heavier snow, beginning in the morning hours of Tuesday in the southwest, reaching the GTA by the afternoon. Freezing rain potential for southern Ontario and the Golden Horseshoe in the afternoon and evening hours. System clears out Wednesday morning, leaving below-freezing temperatures and icy surfaces.
- Quebec: Snow will track into Quebec Monday morning bringing trace to 2 cm of snow to some areas. Temperatures still an improvement in contrast to last month, with Montreal seeing a high of -3 Monday afternoon. New system brings 5-10 cm of snow to southern Quebec on Tuesday.
Western Canada
- Prairies: Milder conditions, with variable skies. Snow begins in the evening for northern Alberta, sinking south. Trace amounts through Edmonton, Calgary sees flurries through the overnight and through the day Tuesday. Higher snowfall amounts in the foothills and southwest. System clears out Tuesday afternoon for all provinces.
- British Columbia: Fairly inactive week ahead, with seasonal temperatures.
