Thursday, October 8, 2015, 10:12 AM - Heavy rain and strong winds are in the forecast for parts of Western Canada. Frost advisories issued for the Maritimes. Meanwhile, showers push through Ontario. Here's your daily weather brief.

Atlantic Canada

  • Maritimes: Widespread frost advisories issued for New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. "A combination of clear skies, cold temperatures and light winds will result in frost in many parts," Environment Canada reports.
  • Newfoundland: Scattered showers forecast for the island Thursday, with temperatures around seasonal.

Ontario and Quebec

  • Ontario: The low that brought showers and thunderstorms to southern Manitoba Wednesday is tracking through northern Ontario Thursday. Southern portions of the province expected to be dry through the afternoon, before rain begins by evening hours. It may be a rainy drive home for those heading home from the Blue Jays game. A general 10 mm forecast for the Greater Toronto Area through Friday morning.
  • Quebec: Rain pushes into southern Quebec Friday and into the Maritimes by Friday afternoon.

Western Canada

  • Prairies: Temperatures increase into the mid-20s for Alberta and Manitoba this weekend, before dropping back into the teens Monday for Manitoba. There is a chance of showers for northern portions of the Prairies. Meanwhile, most areas to the south remain dry.
  • British Columbia: A broad upper low over the Gulf of Alaska, tropical moisture ushered in from Hurricane Oho and a series of surface lows will help channel in a lot of moisture and strong winds onto the coast Thursday through Sunday. Winds generally out of the south are forecast to increase along the north coast Thursday, continuing through Friday. Gusts will likely be over 100 km/h. The south coast is expected to see morning showers taper into sunny breaks Thursday afternoon. However, rain moves in Friday and becomes heavier through Saturday. Vancouver likely to see 50 mm through Saturday. Meanwhile, higher elevations in north and central coasts could see up to 200 mm over the next couple of days. The rain is expected to ease Tuesday. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the province as a result.
