Four map forecast: Your Sunday weather

Saturday, April 30, 2016, 7:29 PM - The new month gets off to a chilly and damp start in the east while the heat is on in the west. Here's your weather overview for Sunday, May 1.

The ridge that will dominate the early part of next week's weather pattern starts to build in earnest across the west on Sunday. High temperatures along the Lower Mainland and through the B.C. interior will creep up into the mid-20s under bright, sunny skies to start the week. Albertans will also be basking in the mid-20s by midweek. Read more about the summer-like warm up here.

Mainly dry conditions may exacerbate fire danger in the western Prairies, however. Fire bans and restrictions are in place for parts of Alberta and Saskatchewan, as officials rate the fire danger as extreme in some areas.

If you were hoping to get outdoors this weekend in southern Ontario and Quebec, here's hoping you took advantage of Saturday because a turn for the worse is in store for Sunday. An extensive low pressure system moving south of the Great Lakes will push rain into the region starting Saturday evening. Residents from Windsor to Montreal will be looking at a soggy end to the weekend, with another - potentially heavier - shot of rain moving through the area on Monday.

Below seasonal temperatures overall will continue with no signs of a decent warm up until at least Mother's Day.

The week ahead brings more of the same as an omega block pattern sets up over most of the country. Warm, dry conditions persist in the west while a trough digs over the east, bringing below seasonal temperatures and a parade of low pressure systems through the region. The Maritimes look to be in the sights of the worst weather, with rain, wind, and maybe even a hint of snow in the forecast for next week.
