Tuesday, May 13, 2014, 6:54 AM - Not only did the rain slow the Tuesday morning commute across southern Ontario, the QEW’s Fort Erie-bound lanes were closed at Walkers Line in Burlington due to a collision.

Two tractor trailers jackknifed on the highway and according to officials, one of the trucks suffered a ruptured fuel tank.

No injuries were reported.

All lanes of the highway re-opened before 7 am.

"Considering the extent of the collision & working in the rain, that was fast!," tweeted Beat The Traffic.

The collision occurred near Guelph Line early Tuesday as heavy rain and thunderstorms moved through the area.

The rain is expected to persist throughout the day along with the chance for more thunderstorms across the region.

"Widespread scattered thunderstorms are expected again today, first along the warm front (this morning), then again ahead and along the cold front (afternoon/evening)," says Weather Network meteorologist Gina Ressler.

As a result, motorists are urged to leave plenty of extra time and be prepared for deteriorating conditions.
