City of Toronto issues extreme cold weather alert

The City of Toronto has issued an extreme cold weather alert as the temperatures continues to drop Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
Toronto could feel as cold as -27 once the wind chill is taken into consideration. The city advises homeless people to find shelter as the cold weather could be potentially dangerous.
While the alert is in force, local shelters are more lenient with their service restrictions. If no bed is available at the shelter, anyone that needs one is allowed to stay at the shelter until a bed is found elsewhere.
The city of Toronto will also increase their street outreach in the downtown core to make sure as many people in need of assistance are helped.
The weather alert comes shortly after many Toronto residents were left in the dark after an ice storm left thousands without power. About 100 people are still without electricity since December 21.
