Chickens take over Arizona neighbourhood

Wednesday, July 23, 2014, 5:25 PM - An Arizona neighbourhood has been overrun by possibly hundreds of feral chickens and authorities say there's little they can do.
Some residents say they like their "chicken neighbours".
"They're fun to look at," said Jennifer Collins, who lives in the area.
"In the springtime, the babies are born and we get to watch them grow up into teenagers and hang out in little gangs with each other. You know sometimes you just got to slow down and enjoy the chickens."
But not everyone is taken with the chickens.

"I just think that we kind of live in the middle of the city and I don't think there should be chickens. I know the city code it's illegal to have roosters so I would just expect the city to be able to do something about it," one woman told local media.
While the city prohibits people from owning chickens that make excessive noise, officials say the chicken problem is "outside of their responsibilities."
The owner -- or owners -- of the chickens could be fined. The only problem is, nobody knows who they belong to.
The only way to get rid of the chickens is through a pest control service, which residents would have to pay for out of pocket.
