Sunday, July 26, 2015, 7:16 AM - After an active Saturday for many regions, Sunday will see a repeated risk for thunderstorms in a number of provinces, while summer heat and humidity make a comeback in other parts. Here's your Sunday weather brief.

Atlantic Canada

  • Maritimes: Scattered showers round out Sunday in parts of the region, beginning in New Brunswick and moving into Nova Scotia by the evening hours. Rain overnight will continue into Monday, with the added risk for thunderstorms.
  • Newfoundland: Despite frost advisories in place for the Avalon Peninsula, Sunday is forecast to be the last in a spell of cool days for St. John's. Daytime temperatures will hover near 12 C with a mix of sun and cloud. Conditions will remain below seasonal as the week goes on, but the temperatures are expected to rise by 5-10 C.

Ontario & Quebec

  • Ontario: A warm, clear day ahead for southern Ontario today, as southwesterly winds usher in waves of humid air. Humidity is expected to clear out by the afternoon, leaving a mix of sun and cloud coupled with "dry and nice" conditions, according to Weather Network meteorologist Erin Wenckstern. Scattered thunderstorms are possible through northeastern and central Ontario, while heat warnings are in place in northwestern Ontario with daytime highs near 30C.
  • Quebec: There is a risk for thunderstorms through southern Quebec extending through the Eastern Townships and to the north. Temperatures remain seasonal across the region as humidity is expected to intensify throughout the week. Places like Montreal feel well into the 30s with the humidex on Sunday.

Western Canada

  • Prairies: After severe storms fired up across the Prairies on Saturday, prompting a number of tornado watches, another severe weather day is on tap for the region. Extreme instability will spark the risk of strong thunderstorms for most of Manitoba and southeastern Saskatchewan. Torrential downpours, large hail and strong wind gusts are the biggest threats to watch out for on Sunday.
  • British Columbia: Chance of scattered thunderstorms today, localized mainly through the coastal mountains and the Rockies, with potential instability for the Vancouver area. Hail and heavy downpours are also possible for parts of the B.C. interior and through the south. "Convection is possible for most of B.C. Sunday," Wenckstern notes. Conditions are expected to clear and warm throughout the week.
