Brief: Hot for some, snow in parts. Storm risk in MB and ON

Thursday, September 3, 2015, 6:58 AM - Heat warnings remain in place for portions of southern Manitoba and northern Ontario, as the risk of thunderstorms is expected for both provinces due to hot and muggy conditions. Here's your Thursday weather brief.
Atlantic Canada
- Maritimes: A weak trough tracks southeast towards the coast of Nova Scotia Thursday, bringing the chance for isolated scattered showers. Cooler temperatures on tap over the next 48 hours for the Maritimes.
- Newfoundland: A slight thunderstorm risk for areas inland due to an upper level trough. Showers continue for portions of the island Friday, with on and off rain Saturday.
Ontario & Quebec
- Ontario: Hot and humid conditions continue in southern Ontario. Pearson hit 33.3oC Wednesday, making it the hottest day for the airport so far in 2015. Heat warnings remain in place for portions of northern Ontario. Daytime highs are expected to reach near 30C with humidex values in the high 30s. The heat is forecast to persist until Saturday when a cold front moves through the region, Environment Canada reports. The risk of thunderstorms linger for extreme southern Ontario due to this hot and unstable airmass. Heavy downpours and small hail are the primary threats with these storms. High pressure looks to be the story for Ontario through the weekend, with Labour Day expected to be a hot one. A pattern change moves in late Tuesday into Wednesday as the humidity is set to eventually break.
- Quebec: Thursday is expected to be quite dry following severe thunderstorm watches and warnings for southern Quebec Wednesday.
Western Canada
- Prairies: Some heat records were broken in Saskatchewan and Manitoba including, Estevan which hit a reported 35C Wednesday. Showers continue for extreme southern portions of Alberta all day Thursday. Isolated severe thunderstorms possible for Manitoba as a low pushes east, with areas northwest of Winnipeg the target for storms. Widespread heat warnings are in effect for southern Manitoba. Hot and humid conditions continue with humidex values in the 40s Thursday afternoon. Friday also looks to be quite unsettled for Manitoba, as a moist pacific trough tracks east. Heavy downpours and strong thunderstorms are possible for southeastern Manitoba, extending into northern Ontario. The western Prairies are set to see another bout of moisture Friday afternoon into Saturday, with the potential for a very fall-like low pressure system developing Sunday for Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
- B.C.: A upper trough slides south over the South Coast, bringing cold October-like values to the area. Snow was reported on Mount Washington and Whistler Mountain. Scattered thunderstorm risk east of Cascades and Coastal Mountains Friday. There is a slight chance of showers for the North Coast Saturday.

Fall Outlook
- Summer weather will linger deep into September for most Canadians, followed by a sudden and extended temperature drop for many, The Weather Network predicts in its Fall Forecast for September, October and November. Above-seasonal temperatures are then expected to return later in the season before winter arrives. Precipitation, meanwhile, will be near or below normal levels for most of the country throughout fall.
