Beautiful time-lapse video unveils an astronaut's view of the Milky Way

Thursday, September 25, 2014, 9:19 PM - Images and videos from the International Space Station show off the truly spectacular view they're afforded from their vantage point in orbit, but it's not often that they post something like this.
The video above and the image below were created by Hugh Carrick-Allan, a 3D Animator and VFX artist living in Sydney, Australia, both using images from the Earth Science and Remote Sensing Unit of NASA's Johnson Space Center. They show the International Space Station, the green glow of the Aurora Australis (Southern Lights), and it even captures a couple of random satellites whizzing past.
According to his blog, Carrick-Allan stacked 52 images from the timelapse to create the image below, then processed and cleaned up the ISS in the foreground, which resulted in this incredibly detailed and vibrant photograph of our Milky Way galaxy above the space station.
