Ontarians have been taking to social media to express their displeasure with the unseasonably cool weather these past couple of days.

It's unofficially been dubbed "Augtober" in Ontario, with temperatures struggling to reach 20 °C this week.

"The cool weather in southern Ontario is due to an upper level low stuck over the Great Lakes," explains Weather Network meteorologist Brian Dillon. "With this pattern, it has brought us cooler temperatures, light showers, and breezy conditions."

While it has been an unwelcomed pattern to many across the province, forecasters say there is hope ahead as the upper low will slowly start to push northward.

"Temperatures will continue to be below seasonal across the province [this weekend], although not as cold as Thursday," says Brad Rousseau, another meteorologist at The Weather Network. "

Looking ahead to next week, several models show the potential for several days with above seasonal temperature later next week (Wednesday through to next Saturday).

In his article "Seasonal start to August; Autumnal through Friday, but summer returns next week" meteorologist Dr. Doug Gillham provides an in-depth analysis on the temperature reversal pattern that is expected across the country next week.
