Atlantic Canada dries out after Gabrielle dumps over 70 mm of rain

It may not have been a massive “Juan” like storm - but - “Gabrielle” was the first storm of this years Atlantic Hurricane season to visit Canada. This was a very rainy weather system that we were able to show you live and in real time on The Weather Network on television and on The Weather Network online.

Upwards of 75 mm of rain in one day is a lot of rain, no matter where you live in Canada, and it does have an impact on your day to day life. What happens after a storm is also an interesting study in human nature. We bounce back into our routines fairly quickly.

Being in Nova Scotia for this first "tropically flavoured" storm of 2013 also allowed us to begin exploring how important the weather is to the fabric of Atlantic Canada.

There are hundreds of stories about the weather in this part of the country. We took time over the past few days to record just a few of them. They are fascinating insights into how powerful nature can be, and how we as Canadians live with and thrive in some of the most diverse weather on Earth.
