After squalls start off the week, forecasters look to next snow

Tuesday, January 27, 2015, 11:46 AM - Monday's commute was not an easy one for people in the Greater Toronto Area.
Snow squalls developed off of Lake Ontario, and lingered for several hours, bringing an average 5-10 cm to the western GTA and Niagara region.
They'd mostly cleared out by Tuesday morning, but parts of Hamilton and Niagara still saw some flakes fall.
The weather conditions contributed to some collisions in the greater Hamilton area.
Some vehicles were off the road in Grimsby, and a major crash in Mount Hope on Highway 6 resulted in two deaths. The OPP told CBC one vehicle crossed the centre line and collided with another. It is not clear if weather was the deciding factor, as the road lines were still visible, but the road was wet and it was snowing at the time.

As for what's ahead, forecasters say the next chance for snow will be Thursday.
Amounts are still being firmed up, but generally look to be in the 5 cm range, up to 10 cm in areas further north. Not much, but potentially causing hassles for unwary drivers and snow-sensitive roadways.
"The morning commute won't be much of an issue, it's the evening commute we're looking at," Weather Network meteorologist Erin Wenckstern said Tuesday.
