Sometimes I feel like I should have joined the circus.
I love to travel - not always the major hubs, though; I like undiscovered areas.
Going from town to town, discovering the heart of a community, seeing interesting (and often goofy) things. The thing is, I'm not really acrobatic, so I suppose I'll just have to keep convincing my bosses that traveling places is good for The Weather Network.
Day One was all travel - we started at Pearson Airport in Toronto, with a layover in Edmonton, Alta., then finally Kelowna, B.C., where we are settling in for the night. Here is the day in pictures:
I basically had to pack my entire life into four bags - three rolling bags, one back pack.
You can see I'm struggling with my hockey stick - they are great until you have to carry four other bags, then they become a pain in the butt!
This was the view of the tundra of Edmonton outside the airport - today it was -38 with the windchill in the City of Champions.
It certainly looks like deceiving outside. I joked in one of the videos we posted that I don't envy our Edmonton reporter Margeaux Morin!
This is a portion of a "Living Wall" - an assortment of 8,000 locally grown plants, covering over 1,400 square feet inside the airport. A genius idea.
I posted more info in a video on this page, check it out.
Our fearless producer Liz Hadfield is sending her very first tweet! As her "social media coach" I couldn't be more proud.
She has caved, just like Dale Earnhardt Jr. caved the other day... they all do eventually (insert maniacal laugh here).
By the way you can follow Liz on Twitter @hadfield_liz...
(until I get her to change the username because I don't like it).
Any suggestions on what it should be?
Send them on Twitter and use #TheTripTWN, she will pick her favourite!
This assortment of Canadian team NHL jerseys made me smile, mostly because I can track my life through them:
Top Row, Left to Right: I grew up there, I had the best night out of my life there, I got lost for hours in a mall there.
Bottom Row, Left to Right: I'm going there, I worked there for the past several months, my high school sweetheart was from there.
Breathtaking, isn't it? B.C. from an airplane... need I say more. #TheTripTWN is on!
Tuesday we hold our first shinny game, 7am PST at the University of British Columbia's Okanagan campus.
They have a great outdoor facility there and as I understand it we'll be joined by students and faculty for a nice game of Students vs Staff. I'll have to scout the players to see which one we appoint to be "Team Weather Network."
We will be live on the air in BC and across the country on The Weather Network morning show.
THE TRIP: Keep checking back on this page, as we will be constantly uploading videos and blogs from the journey!
See you on the ice (or road)!
