Window and door manufacturer JELD-WEN was presented with the 2009 “Participant of the Year” award by the ENERGY STAR initiative in Canada. The award is given to the company that has demonstrated the best overall compliance with ENERGY STAR specifications in its product manufacturing, distribution, and marketing in Canada. Mr. Sante Cigana, Vice President JELD-WEN of Canada, received the award to mark the honour.
“JELD-WEN is committed to the continuous improvement of company products, operations, and energy efficiency. ENERGY STAR specifications are a benchmark in energy performance. But at JELD WEN, we go one step further, ensuring our production operations are energy efficient and promoting energy efficiency values, too. That’s why we are so proud to receive this honour acknowledging JELD-WEN’s tireless efforts as well as its people to make energy efficiency one of our corporate values at every level of the company,” notes Brad West, Marketing Manager for JELD-WEN Canada.
In 2006 JELD-WEN won an ENERGY STAR award for “Promotional Campaign of the Year.” Mr. West adds that “JELD-WEN will continue to invest time and expertise to ensure its operations are state-of-the-art and to stay at the leading edge of energy efficiency standards.” This goal was also the impetus behind JELD-WEN’s recent launch of www.eco-reno.ca, which allows visitors to find information on highly energy efficient ENERGY STAR qualified products available in their area and on government grants for which they may be eligible.
Fireplace Flue
Check that the flue is closed in your fireplace. When you don't have a fire burning, close the flue to prevent warmed air from escaping up the chimney.
Caulking
Add caulking to your windows and doors. Poorly fitted windows and doors can cause up to 30% of heat loss in your home. Caulking windows that don't open is an easy way to save money.
Wall and Attic Insulation
Improve your home's wall and attic insulation. Adding insulation is one of the most effective ways to reduce heating costs. Some older homes don't even have insulation between the walls.
Furnace Maintenance
Keep your furnace properly maintained. Have your furnace checked and cleaned every year to help maximize its efficiency. A licensed technician will help ensure that components are working properly and check for carbon monoxide.
Curtains
Use your curtains to help keep warmth inside. During the day, open your curtains to let the natural sunlight heat your home. As soon as it becomes dark, close the curtains to help keep the warm air in and the cold air out.
High-Efficiency Furnace
Upgrade to a new high-efficiency furnace. When replacing your furnace, upgrade to a high-efficiency model. It can help lower your heating bills and save you money.
Dealing with a Trusted Brand
Deal with a name you can trust. A trained professional will be able to recommend the right heating system for your home. Square footage, the number of windows, duct work, and even the number of people living in your home, affect the size of furnace your home requires.
